Dual nationality holders cannot contest election in future, decides ECP

ISLAMABAD: Election Commission of Pakistan has decided to get administered oath to all the member parliamentarians following the verdict of Supreme Court (SC) on dual nationality, Geo News reported.
This was decided in a high level meeting of ECP here Monday. Secretary ECP Ishtiaq Ahmed briefed the media over the decisions of the meeting.
Secretary ECP said dual nationality holders could not take part in elections in the future, adding that 11 MPs were de-notified after the court verdict.
Case of Interior Minister has been sent to Chairman Senate and decision over the disqualification of Malik would be taken after chairman moved the reference. Till that Malik is Senator and Federal Minister, he added.
Chairman Senate is to decide about the reference in 30 days, or else, ECP will decide about Interior Minister, Ishtiaq Ahmed said.
The secretary further informed that ECP has initiated action against 12 MPs over dual nationality and petitions have been moved to session judge concerned.
