Proposal moved to hike diesel price, lower petrol

ISLAMABAD: Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) has forwarded a proposal to the Ministry of Petroleum seeking a hike in the price of diesel and reduction in that of petrol under the government's weekly mechanism for revising the rates of fuel prices, Geo News reported Saturday. Sources told the Geo News that in the proposal OGRA has recommended a rise of Rs3.16 per litre in the price of diesel and a reduction of Rs2.09 a litre in the rate of petrol. The summary further proposes to increase the prices of kerosene oil and light diesel by Rs1.92 and Rs1.23 per litre respectively. PESHAWAR: Investigations have been kicked off against six security personnel in the wake of recovery of a satellite phone from Dr. Shakil Afridi, being detained in Central Prison Peshawar. According to sources, Dr. Shakil Afridi used the satellite phone to give interviews to a foreign newspaper and to make a number of calls within and outside Pakistan. A security man has also bee taken into custody for allegedly delivering the phone to Dr. Afridi, sources told Geo News. On the other hand, Deputy Superintendent Prison Maqsood-ur-Rehman told Geo News that Dr. Afridi's lawyer or brother who had come to see him a while ago might have smuggled the phone into the prison and given it to him. Investigations are now being carried out against six security officials who were deployed for Dr. Afridi's security.
